so, we all dream of a load of players who get a nose bleed if they go past the halfway line, are slow as f@ck, always play the predictable back toward your own goal pass and the only attacking element of his game is the old trap the ball and wedge it diagonally with his 9 iron as far as he can up the pitch.

Good question!!
Liverpool are well off for central defenders and it must be a tough job deciding who are the best pair.
Personally, I'd put Agger in because he's a class act & put no nonsense old fashioned centre half Skyrtl alongside him and then put Carragher at right back.
It's a shame big Hyppia is coming towards the end of his career because he's one of the best central defenders Liverpool have ever had.
Obviously with injuries and loss of form, any 2 from this quartet would still do a good job as the 2 centre backs.

I think there's a more serious positional issue than that after watching the game. Ok so it was Crewe but Pennant put in better crosses in 5 mins that Arbeloa, Dossena, Kuyt and Riera combined did against Stoke. Yet Rafa won't even have him on the bench for the next game and will play a 12 yard box striker with no pace on the right again and we will struggle against Everton.

Agger had a great game but he's on his way out unless he's played:(

i would go with skertal and agger..skertal reminds me of vidic. both played hard and were not afraid to put their bodies on the line..and skertal is getting better..tho hypia was one of the best liverpool defenders, he's getting a bit old and slow..but to me he is and still one of the best of liverpool's backline.. carra is overrated.. should have sold him when they got the chance..like Risse was sold to AS ROMA recently
